Blühendes Bodenseeland
A project in the international Lake Constance area
Field of action: Nature and Lake Conservation
Project goals: Increase habitat and food for pollinating insects in the international Lake Constance area
Project area: INTERREG project area “Alprhein-Bodensee-Hochrhein“ (Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Liechtenstein)
Duration: October 2015 – December 2018
Background
Pollinating insects have a very important role in our ecosystems as they ensure food security and increase biodiversity; 80 % of native wild plants and 84 % of European crops depend on pollination. In the past decades, there has been a loss of habitat for pollinators, also in the Lake Constance area. Due to the ever-increasing land usage the amount of native flowering plants have decreased (food for the insects) as well amount of potential habitats.
Implementation
Increase awareness for a more pollinator-friendly management of areas through dissemination, motivation and practical guidance for municipalities, agricultural stakeholders, schools, architects/developers, beekeepers and the general public. This not only promotes pollinating insects alone but also ensures a more biodiverse landscape and more resilient ecosystems.
In the project, this is achieved through 8 different modules addressing the various stakeholders.
